Facebook: this page promises six months of free travel, it’s a phishing attempt

Facebook is the playground of scammers and their new scam is not an April Fool’s joke although it was published on April 1st. A page called Public Transport Map in Reims has been created and has only one sponsored publication, on April 2 at 9:33 p.m., as reported by France 3 Régions.

No, Grand Reims Mobilités does not offer six months of free travel

The publication announces the launch of a campaign “to support the public following the increase in prices” with “a Grand R card to travel free for six months”. Numerous comments identified as false were published in response, including a Rémoise who declared having “received the card a few days ago and checked it, everything works”. The profile looks fake, like all those who claim to benefit from these so-called six months of free travel.

To urge Internet users, the publication announces that “this is the last day to apply” with a link leading to a form which asks for a name, first name, address and means of contact.

Then comes the trap: you obviously have to enter your bank card number to benefit from the offer. Unfortunately, some people continue to ask for the link to take advantage of these six months of free. So there are victims of the scam.

A phishing attempt to steal your sensitive data

Fake comments and potential victims populate the comments.

No need to draw a picture for yourself, this is an attempt to phishing. And not just any data since this phishing attacks very sensitive data: the complete identity of the victim and their banking details. If you clicked on the post link, there is no “no trackers or viruses” on the form page. So you have nothing to fear as long as no information has been provided. Otherwise, immediately file an objection with your bank.

Contacted by France 3 Régions, Grand Reims Mobilités confirms that it is a fraudulent Facebook page. Despite everything, it is still active at the time of writing, April 4 at 6 p.m., just like the sponsored post.
