The prices of mobile plans will not increase in the coming years, but Free has just changed the conditions of one of its options, making it much less interesting.
Last year, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, Free announced a shock measure intended to trap its competitors : freezing the prices of its mobile plans at least until 2027. The French operator reaffirmed this commitment only a few days ago, specifying that the prices of the Free Package at €19.99/month and Package 2 € will not increase until this date.
This is therefore excellent news for consumers, since Orange, Bouygues and SFR have applied numerous price increases in recent months. However, blocking package prices likely forced Free to review the price of one of its flagship options: the Booster option.
Free reduces the Internet quota of its Booster option
For those who do not know the Booster option of Free, it aims to add a few gigabytes of data to the €2 plan, which otherwise only offers 50 MB of data per month. It also allows you to transform the quota of 2 hours of calls per month into unlimited calls, and even offers an Internet envelope in Europe and the French Overseas Territories.
The option until now allowed you to benefit from an additional 5 GB for only €2.99 per month, bringing the total package to €4.99 per month. However, Free has just modified its offer by reducing the data envelope to only 1 GB per month in France. The roaming envelope is also becoming less extensive, going from 6 GB to 1 GB in Europe and the French Overseas Territories. Worse still, the extra package in Europe is now billed at €0.05 per MB, compared to €0.0021 per MB previously, a colossal difference.
The Internet quota is therefore now 5 times lower than what the Booster option previously offered in France, and 6 times less in Europe, while the price has not changed. Fortunately, these changes do not concern former subscribers, who will be able to benefit from the old conditions. Unfortunately, for new subscribers, you will now have to consider a more expensive plan if you lack mobile Internet.
