Fairphone is back in the race with a new pair of true wireless headphones: the Fairbuds. They follow the Fairbuds XL headphones launched last year and are intended to be more ethical and more eco-responsible than the majority of headphones on the market. Indeed, these small tech objects have proliferated for several years and are a real source of pollution due to their disposable aspect. Once the battery is flat, the headphones become unusable (because they are very difficult to repair), and therefore go in the trash. With the Fairbuds, Fairphone continues its virtuous adventure by offering headphones with an easily replaceable battery.

Ethical headphones with replaceable battery

As we have just said, the Fairbuds have a removable battery and therefore easily replaceable by the user. It nestles behind a small hatch placed at the edge of the earpiece and protected by a silicone coating. This battery comes in the form of a button cell which can be purchased on the Fairphone website. The case’s battery is also easily replaceable using a simple screwdriver.

Not content with offering a sustainable concept thanks to the replaceable battery, Fairphone pushes the eco-responsibility slider even further by promising an extended three-year warranty compared to two for the rest of the market. The Dutch brand also guarantees decent wages and working conditions for its production line: a bonus is paid to each worker for each pair of Fairbuds sold.

Fairphone also does everything possible to have as little impact on the environment as possible. All gold used in electronic circuits comes from fair trade; silver and cobalt come from mines with improved working conditions. In addition, 100% of the rare earths used come from recycling. Fairphone also ensures that 70% of the materials used come from recycling or fair trade.

A classic technical sheet for mid-range headphones

Beyond all these efforts made for the planet, the Fairbuds are completely classic headphones in terms of their characteristics. They feature 11mm drivers.carefully tuned to deliver premium sound” and feature six microphones providing active noise reduction and promising crystal clear calls.

IP54 certified, they are equipped with a multipoint compatible Bluetooth 5.3 chip, but no mention is made of potential compatibility with the new Bluetooth LE Audio standard and therefore with the new LC3 codec and the Auracast function. The headphones are also supported by the Fairbuds app giving access, among other things, to an eight-band equalizer to adjust the audio rendering to your liking. The Fairbuds also promise a battery life of 5 hours with noise reduction enabled.

Fairbuds are already available at a price of €149.
