The updates follow one another, but are not always the same in the Apple universe. While iOS 17.2 has been available on eligible terminals since December 2023, the brand is working to enrich it. The iOS 17.3 system is therefore on fire, and a first beta appeared in December, notably revealing enhanced security for iPhones via a feature called Device protection in the event of theft.
A second beta of iOS 17.3 was launched last night, becoming available to iPhone users (at a minimum in version Xs/Xr or SE 2nd generation) registered in the Apple program dedicated to developers. Early installers were quick to note a bug linked to this version, which caused some of them to repeatedly reboot their devices, forcing them to switch to Recovery mode in order to reinstall beta 1 (the procedure is available here), for its functional part. The problem, underlined on Twitter/Xhas been identified by Apple, which now indicates on its development platform that “iOS and iPadOS 17.3 beta 2 have been temporarily removed, due to an issue that prevented a small number of devices from turning on”.
Apple has not indicated when iOS 17.3 beta 2 will be available for download again, but we have no doubt that it will return in the coming days, in a version purged of its bugs. We will also have to wait until then to know the exact content, the Cupertino company having not published the Release Notes, that is to say the explanatory note accompanying the release of each beta of its OS and in detailing the content.
