He was seen on Terra X and other programs for 15 years, now the prominent presenter Dirk Steffens is switching to RTL. There he is to become the new face of the science brand Geo, which was previously known primarily as a print magazine. However, some details remain open.
Dirk Steffens changes from ZDF to RTL
RTL has grabbed a familiar face for the expansion of the Geo science brand. According to information from the media magazine DWDL, the moderator should say goodbye to ZDF in the course of the year and will work for RTL Germany in the future. For more than 15 years, Steffens was known as the face of shows like Terra X and Faszination Erde. Together with Harald Lesch he moderated “A case for Lesch and Steffens”.
RTL has big plans for Geo. After the RTL merger with the media company Gruner + Jahr, the brand is to be seen in various television formats. So far, Geo is best known for its print magazines. The broadcaster has not yet communicated to the outside what role Steffens will play at Geo. It is certain that he will be working for Geo “soon”., as a spokesman for RTL Germany has confirmed. The moderator’s management has also confirmed the move to private television.
It remains unclear how long Steffens will remain on ZDF. In February, the moderator still had new episodes of Fascination Earth announced for autumn 2022. An exact date for the farewell to the public broadcaster has not yet been determined (source: DWDL).

Already in 2011 Steffens won for the Terra-X Superbeasts Two-Piece the golden camera. His three-part series “The Journey of Mankind” was also awarded the German Television Prize in 2019. With Harald Lesch and Mai Thi Nguyen, who will be committed in 2021, ZDF will retain two prominent science moderators.
