  • NASA has published a remarkable photo of the Mars rover “Curiosity”.
  • It shows a kind of bouquet.
  • The formation is made up of minerals that indicate water.

The largely autonomous rover Curiosity has been making its rounds on Mars since August 6, 2012, i.e. for almost ten years. Again and again he radios spectacular images to earth. Like this – are there any flowers here?

The striking structure is actually reminiscent of something organic like coral. If you were walking across the red planet’s surface, you probably wouldn’t have noticed it.

Because the structure to be seen in the picture is tiny, just barely recognizable with the naked eye. A post from NASA employee and astrophotographer Kevin M. Gill summarizes the rover’s images.

According to the scientist and NASA employee Abigail Fraeman the “bouquet” is smaller than a penny coin. Mineral structures like this are formed when water evaporates or seeps away.

If you would like to explore Mars with your own eyes from the computer, we will show you how you can do this with the help of Google Maps. You can even listen to Mars. You can find the technical background to the motif here.
