Accessories can spice up an outfit – or unintentionally make you look a few years older than you are. We’ll tell you which accessories you should be careful with and how you can cleverly avoid the traps.

Dark circles under the eyes, gray hair, wrinkles – all of this makes us look older. But what many people don’t know: There are also some Accessories that make us older. Often probably without us wanting it. Because even if a certain granny look is in right now, we still want to wear it with a certain coolness. But surprisingly, the line between cool and old-fashioned is sometimes extremely thin. Therefore, we will not only tell you which accessories you need to be careful with, but also how you can wear the items without appearing older than you are.

6 accessories that will make you look older than you are

1. Silk scarves

There are plenty of them and you can’t really resist the beautiful patterns and colors of the scarves. The only catch: a silk scarf like this placed around the neck or shoulders quickly gives us something very ladylike and, unfortunately, usually comes across as quite stuffy. But what do you do if you fall in love with one of the beautiful scarves? Giving up on this is out of the question. Instead, you can braid the piece in your hair, tie it around your ponytail or knot it on your handbag. Then the great cloth still comes into its own.

2. Pearls

Pearls also show how thin the line can be between hip and old-ladylike. Smooth, round pearls, especially on short chains, look neat and conservative. This can be quite appropriate for certain occasions, but if you want something a little bolder, you should wear pearls differently. For example, you can use large baroque pearls. These are very popular at the moment and are usually combined with long chains.

3. Wristwatches

Can’t leave the house without a watch? No problem, because you don’t have to go without it. But you should pay attention to which ones you wear and, above all, how! Small, fine wristwatches in silver or gold in particular can quickly increase your estimated age. Here you should make sure to choose a watch that has a fashionable twist, such as an eye-catching bracelet. Bracelets with a mesh look are particularly popular. It can also help to wear the watch over your sleeve rather than under it. This not only looks hip – it also has the advantage that the good piece is shown off better.

4. Block heel pumps

Pretty much every older woman has pumps with a massive block heel and a round neckline in her closet. And not without reason: after all, these shoes are super comfortable and still look great.

If you also like these shoes but don’t want to appear older than you are, you should choose pumps that have a massive but specially shaped, so-called “statement heel”. And you can also be a little experimental with the shape of the shoe neckline so as not to appear ladylike. How about, for example, a neckline that tapers sharply to the front? Nobody pays attention to the old-fashioned block heel anymore.

5. Specific models of glasses

Glasses are a difficult topic. Here too, fashion and trends are constantly changing. While delicate, rimless glasses were still in vogue twenty years ago, the heavy, eye-catching models have been in vogue for a few years now. Anyone who now wears frames that are too fine or chooses glasses that have striking shapes that were fashionable a long time ago can quickly appear very unfashionable and old. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that you can choose any massive pair of glasses and always look hip. For this you should really seek extensive advice from an eyewear store. And it’s best to take a friend with you who can help you make the choice.

6. Skin-colored nylon stockings

Ouch, they look really old-fashioned. The worst are the models that are also conspicuously shiny. And no, unfortunately they never look natural. There is no really trendy way to wear these tights – just the absolute avoidance. This means: It’s better to wear black tights in winter and go for a natural look in summer, without them at all.
