  • “Fast X”, the 10th and penultimate film in the “Fast & Furious” saga, has lost its director.
  • Justin Lin left the project just days after filming began.
  • Creative differences are suspected as the reason for the sudden exit.

The “Fast & Furious” franchise has already taken on gigantic proportions and is set to come to a conclusion with part 11 after two more films. The shooting of “Fast X”, the 10th film in the Fast saga, has been underway for a few days and now the productions have had to take a hard hit.

Justin Lin, the film’s director, has left the project and will only be involved as executive producer. Lin is actually an old hand in the “fast” business and has already shot the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th films in the series.

No reasons were officially given for Lin’s exit, in the official statement the director is grateful for the support of Universal and praises both the cast and the crew. According to insiders, however, creative differences are what led Lin to quit Fast X.

Since lead actor Vin Diesel has always demanded a big say in the films and often portrays himself on social media as the creative mind of the Fast series, it is reasonable to suspect that Lin and Diesel clashed. In such a case, the director would of course be easier to replace than the franchise star.

On the other hand, Lin and Diesel already know each other very well and since at least the content of the film is already certain and has been approved by all sides, it remains a mystery what exactly happened on the set of “Fast X”. Maybe it was very personal reasons that made Lin quit.

Filming on Fast X is set to take a brief hiatus while Universal searches for a last-minute replacement for Justin Lin. The theatrical release in May 2023 will continue to be held as long as the current delay does not extend even further.
