On Thursday morning around 10:30 a.m., a hiking group noticed how a person had fallen below the Tierwis in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. The group immediately alerted the emergency services. A short time later, a police officer who happened to be present was able to find the hiker who had died in the steep terrain, as reported by the Appenzell Ausserrhoden canton police. The air rescue service could only save him dead. The casualty is a 44-year-old mountaineer.

As the police continue to write, it must be assumed that the casualty was traveling alone and was probably on the way back to Schwägalp. He slipped while crossing a snowfield and fell several hundred meters.
