The investigation is continuing. American police officers investigating the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust were allowed Thursday to seize the cell phone of actor Alec Baldwin, who was handling the revolver in question during the accident.
At the time of the drama, on October 21 at a ranch in Santa Fe (New Mexico), Alec Baldwin, who is also a producer of the western, was working on a scene with Halyna Hutchins. The actor maintains that he never squeezed the trigger of the revolver when the shot was fired, saying that he contented himself with cocking the hammer. He explained in a television interview that he did not have “no idea” how a real bullet may have ended up on the film set and “get into the gun”, which had been presented to him as harmless.
A warrant issued on Thursday estimates that“there may be evidence on the phone”, relating to this matter, such as messages or emails sent or received by Alec Baldwin regarding the production of Rust. According to the warrant, Alec Baldwin had notably exchanged emails with the gunsmith of the shoot regarding the type of gun to be used on the fatal scene. The gunsmith had presented him with different models, but Alec Baldwin “said he asked for a bigger gun”.
No arrests have taken place to date in this case, but criminal prosecution is not excluded in the event that responsibilities are established, the Santa Fe prosecutor’s services underlined shortly after the tragedy. In his interview with the ABC channel, Alec Baldwin said he felt neither guilty nor even “responsible” of the death of Halyna Hutchins.
