In July 2011, far-right terrorist Breivik killed 77 people in Norway. The acts in Oslo and on the island of Utøya are among the worst terrorist attacks in post-war Europe. Now, for the first time in a long time, the perpetrator is appearing in court to fight for his early release from prison.
“Don’t want him to get out of jail”
When it comes to his father Jens Breivik, the case is clear: “I don’t want him to get out of jail.” He too died on that fateful day when his son committed the horrible massacre. He will never be able to forget that his son killed 77 people, as he told RTL.
The 80-year-old does not believe that he will ever be able to lead a normal life again. The deed carried out by the boy to whom he had given life hurt too much. Jens Breivik lost custody of son Anders when he was four years old. Nevertheless, his childhood was not a disaster, as his father said in an interview with “SZ Magazin” in 2015. But he is convinced that if he had won the custody battle back then, Breivik would be a different person today.
No contact with son
According to “Bild”, Jens Breivik has had no contact with his son for many years. The 80-year-old rules out the possibility that he could ever forgive him. “I wish I had been on Utøya (editor’s note: the island where Breivik shot 69 people at a holiday camp) and he would have taken me. That’s something I have to think about very often.”
