Who will succeed Hansi Flick as national football coach? Former FC Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann is considered the ideal solution. But his commitment threatens to fail due to the financial conditions. According to information from the “Bild” newspaper, the DFB is said to have decided that the new coach of the national team should only earn a maximum of four million euros per year.
Nagelsmann, currently on leave from FC Bayern, is currently making around eight million euros, according to “Bild”, while “Kicker” writes up to seven million euros. In any case, Nagelsmann’s salary, even when released, is still well above what the DFB apparently has to offer. Since Nagelsmann’s contract with FC Bayern has not yet been terminated, he is still entitled to this salary. It is unlikely that the 36-year-old will give up so many millions for the job at the DFB. By the time his contract in Munich ends in the summer of 2026, Nagelsmann would ultimately miss out on up to ten million euros within two and a half years.

The “Kicker” also writes that a change of the desired coach to the DFB could fail due to financial reasons. It is also said here that the association is “under no circumstances in a position” to grant Nagelsmann similar salaries to that which his predecessor Flick received. The coach who was fired had recently pocketed around 6.5 million euros.
Alternatives are available
But the good years at the DFB are over. The association is fighting against the red numbers; the bosses in Frankfurt have imposed austerity measures in order to curb the financial deficit of the last few years.
However, the Nagelsmann option is still not completely off the table.
