FC Bayern’s catch-up game against Union Berlin will take place at the end of January

Good news for Tuchel
DFL announces date for FC Bayern’s catch-up game

The onset of winter prevented FC Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga game against Union Berlin, and the catch-up date has now been set. And it fits in quite well with Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

The canceled Bundesliga game between FC Bayern Munich and 1. FC Union Berlin will be rescheduled next year. As the German Football League and the clubs announced, the game on the 13th matchday will take place on January 24th, 2024 (8.30 p.m./Sky and in the live ticker on ntv.de) and therefore on a Wednesday. The game was canceled last weekend due to wintry weather conditions and the associated safety risks. The season will continue after the short Christmas break on January 12th with Bayern’s home game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

Coach Thomas Tuchel recently surprisingly announced that they might want to use the time afterwards for a short training camp. That would be possible given the scheduling of the Union game. “Such a training camp does something to you because you can normally spend more time together in the climatic conditions in which you do it,” Tuchel explained his plan again in January before the original date of the Union game to want to travel into the sun. “You stay on the pitch longer, train more in small groups and can work more tactically because the players can stay on the pitch longer without the risk of them cooling down.” Bayern will not play the start of the second half of the season, i.e. matchday 18, until January 21st at home against Werder Bremen.

An earlier date this week did not come about due to the DFB regulations: Both teams would have had time after their surprisingly early exit from the DFB Cup, but games are allowed to take place on cup match days – Tuesday and Wednesday this week third round – no Bundesliga games will take place.
