“We can now take the first opening steps”

FDP parliamentary group leader Dürr is in favor of a “gradual” easing of the corona measures. In the “ntv Frühstart” he calls for proposals from the countries – also from the “wavering” prime ministers of the Union.

The leader of the FDP parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, Christian Dürr, is in favor of taking the first steps to open the corona measures “successively”. With a view to the hospital occupancy “now in mid-February”, this is permissible, Dürr said in “ntv-Frühstart”. Dürr named the 2G/3G regulations in retail for hotels as a possible area. Relaxation is also needed for private contacts.

Dürr also criticized the unclear attitude of the federal states led by the union: “All the prime ministers led by the union waft around and have no opinion of their own.” With a view to the prime ministers’ conference next week, the FDP politician demanded: “I now expect the prime ministers to make opening proposals that will then be implemented at state level. We can already take the first opening steps.”

However, a full opening would come too early: Dürr defended the assessment of Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach that there could be up to 500 deaths a day if the easing were to be carried out too quickly. “He is currently saying: If we were to abolish all measures today, then we would have a problem and I definitely share that.”

Dürr defends timetable

In the dispute over the introduction of a general obligation to vaccinate, Dürr wants to stick to the current schedule. “We’re learning a lot right now. That’s why: just stick to the timetable,” said Dürr. It makes a lot more sense, said the 44-year-old, to make a “well-founded decision” on the subject at the end of March or early April than to make a decision “from the hip” at an early stage, which would then have to be revised again.

In addition, at the end of March there was “sufficient data” on the Omicron variant to then know whether vaccination was still required at all. Dürr also criticized the Union in this context: “Until a few weeks ago, the CDU/CSU said that there was definitely a need for general vaccination from the age of 18, now they see it differently again. That shows me: the roadmap is there correct.”
