The web series “Dead in the Water” tells the story of the submarine that bombed Texas at the end of “Fear the Walking Dead”.

For a long time nothing has been heard about “Dead in the Water”, the latest offshoot of “Fear the Walking Dead” – which in turn is a spin-off of the horror series “The Walking Dead”. But now there was an update via Comicbook.com to the web series that turns out to be less dead than fans feared.

“Dead in the Water”: story and further details

The broadcaster AMC, which is responsible for the horror series franchise, had already announced the digital series in March 2021. It is supposed to tell the story of the crew of a submarine that lost contact with the outside world during the beginning of the zombie apocalypse and has vicious undead on board.

Since the end of season 6 in June 2021, we have also known which submarine is meant: the one responsible for the nasty cliffhanger for season 7 (starting in autumn 2021). Warning, spoilers: At the end of Season 6, a submarine bombed Texas with nuclear warheads. “Dead in the Water” tells how it got to this point.

Showrunner Ian Goldberg didn’t want to reveal much more details. Except that things are moving forward. “We have a story, we have a script, and we are putting the pieces together now,” he said.

Not the first mini offshoot

“Dead in the Water” is not the first web series offshoot of “Fear the Walking Dead”. Parallel to the second season, the series “Flight 462” ran about a zombie infestation on board an airplane. The 16 episodes were each one minute long. Not only were they available online, they were also shown during the commercial break in the sixth season of the mother series “The Walking Dead”.

Between the second and third season of “Fear the Walking Dead”, the web series “Passage” was created, which also ran during commercial breaks from “The Walking Dead”. This time the US-Mexico border was the scene.
