Nvidia had disappointed with its original announcement of the launch of two GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards, a model with 16 GB of vRAM and another with only 12 GB of vRAM. A communication error that has scold many consumers, journalists and youtubers. To avoid stigma, the manufacturer backpedaled and canceled the release of this 12 GB version, qualified as “RTX 4070 in disguise” by many.

After the RTX 4090 and the RTX 4080 would therefore come the RTX 4070 Ti! Rumors have been rife in this direction for several weeks. Still, this would involve an unusual change in nomenclature for Nvidia, which has always released Ti versions (optimized and more efficient) months after its classic graphics cards.

Gigabyte confirms the release of the RTX 4070 Ti

Until recently, we were talking only rumors, but the OEM Gigabyte has registered a list of new GPUs with the ECC (Eurasian Economic Commission), including AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT, as well than GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. It is not 100% guaranteed that it will replace the RTX 4080 12 GB, but it does suggest a relatively close release of the graphics card in Europe.

In terms of characteristics, we should therefore see it on board 12 GB of vRAM, 7680 CUDA cores, a 192-bit memory bus, 504 Gb / s of bandwidth and a TGP (thermal envelope) of 285 W. We also now know the size of the GPU (AD104) thanks to a leak of MEGAsizeGPU on Twitter: around 295 mm², which is half the size of the RTX 4090 and the 608 mm² of its AD102.

Release date and price

We are now waiting for the official announcement of the GPU at CES 2023, on January 3 or 5, depending on the source. There remains a major unknown: its price. The RTX 4090 and 4080 are high performance GPUs, but unfortunately very expensive, and not everyone can afford a card at €2000 and €1500 respectively. Should we expect a good price for the 4070 Ti? Probably not, especially since the RTX 4080 12 GB was scheduled for sale at €1,100. Even if this label is revised downwards, it should not stray too far from it.

Difficult to mount a machine gaming of the latest generation under these conditions, and many are watching AMD’s Radeon RX 7900s to find out if their performance is up to scratch. Likewise, you can also say goodbye to entry-level PCs since Nvidia has decided to stop production of the GeForce GTX 1660 and RTX 2060. Graphics cards that are certainly aging, but which allow you to play in Full HD without having to put thousands and cents in a GPU, the new queen of the entry level – the RTX 3050 – being sold for 300 € all the same.
