When asked whether the Federal Council would soon be declaring a “Freedom Day”, Federal Councilor Alain Berset said on a Friday media conference, Switzerland could soon experience «a day, or rather days of joy». On the sidelines of a visit to Aarau, Berset announced extensive and rapid easing of the corona measures.
There is no longer a risk of hospitals being overburdened
“The prospects are good,” said Berset. The situation is much better than two or three weeks ago. “The burden of Covid patients is decreasing,” said the Federal Council. The overload, which was the benchmark for the Federal Council, is no longer a threat in the hospitals. In addition, Berset emphasized the high immunity rate in the population.
The time for easing had come. Specifically, from his point of view, the lifting of the quarantine could be discussed and the home office requirement converted into a recommendation. These two measures are already being discussed with the cantons and can therefore be decided quickly, said Berset. The Federal Council could probably discuss easing the measures at its meeting on Wednesday, February 2nd.
The end of the certificate is near
Berset has also spoken about the lifting of restrictions on private meetings and again mentioned the possible end for the domestic Covid certificate. He had promised the latter a week ago in an interview with the “Aargauer Zeitung”.
For trips abroad, however, it is likely that the certificate will remain in place. “The exit is a process. But the process can go very quickly, »explained the Federal Council. However, that does not mean that the pandemic is over, personal responsibility is still very important.
