Felbermayr in conversation – How long will we be able to withstand the crisis?

“Crown”: Upper Austrians are relieved: We finally have the electricity price brake that you invented. But the summer is over, soon we will have to heat. Gas is more expensive than ever. Do we still need a gas price brake?
Gabriel Felbermayr: The problem with a gas price brake is that in the cities people usually heat with gas, in the country more with heating oil or wood, pellets, that would have to be subsidized – that would be expensive. Rather an electricity price brake! What households are left with will help them pay their gas bills. But it is also clear that we need even more support for all those who are financially tight. This will have to be reconsidered.
