Gérald Darmanin has requested an administrative investigation from the General Inspectorate of the National Gendarmerie (IGGN) after the murder on Friday in Gironde of a woman by her ex-husband against whom she had filed two complaints, AFP learned on Saturday from the Ministry of the Interior. The victim, aged around 50, was killed at his home in Saint-Laurent-d’Arce by several stab wounds to the throat and stomach by his former companion, who was found hanged in the garage .

Two complaints filed by the victim

The couple had been separated since “mid-January” and the woman “had filed a complaint on February 5 and then February 23” at the Saint-André-de-Cubzac gendarmerie for “violence without incapacity” and “dissemination of images infringing on the intimacy of his private life,” Libourne prosecutor Olivier Kern said in a statement.

The 62-year-old man was sentenced in 2006 by the Gironde Assize Court to twenty years’ imprisonment for an attempted murder committed in 2003 on a former spouse, said the prosecutor. He was the subject of “a conditional reduction measure” by the sentence enforcement judge and resided in the town of Montendre (Charente-Maritime), with a ban on entering into a relationship with this former companion, added the floor.

The number of feminicides increased by 20% in France in 2021 compared to the previous year, with 122 women killed under the blows of their spouse or ex-spouse, against 102 in 2020, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior .
