Ukraine Russia NHL War 22

Political and economic sanctions began to rain down to punish Russia, try to curb Vladimir Putin’s ambitions and limit the country’s presence in the media. Sports institutions act at their level, and now (sports) video games are starting to do the same. Electronic Arts just announced that he was going remove Russian national team and clubs from FIFA 22but also Russian and Belarusian teams (their allies in this conflict) from NHL 22. These decisions come after the final of the Champions League was withdrawn in St. Petersburg and that Russia was excluded from the barrages of the World Cupand that Russia and Belarus were temporarily banned from theIIHFthe International Ice Hockey Federation.

EA Sports stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and, like so many voices across the footballing world, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine. In agreement with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports has initiated procedures to remove the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from EA Sports FIFA products, including FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online. We are also actively evaluating changes related to other areas of our games.

We will keep our communities updated on any actions taken and thank players for their patience as we work through these updates.

Following the IIHF’s suspension of all Russian and Belarus national and club teams from IIHF competition, we will be removing these teams from NHL 22 in the coming weeks. We stand with the people of Ukraine and join the voices around the world calling for peace.

Will other games soon limit or remove the presence of Russia in their experience? In view of the postponement of Little Orpheus on consoles the same day of its release, while it features a totally fictional Russian character, it seems that developers and publishers are very cautious about talking about the country, from near or far.
