Thomas Tuchel is world coach of the year

At Paris St. Germain, Thomas Tuchel will be released at the end of 2020, take over Chelsea at the beginning of 2021 – and lead the London club sensationally to winning the Champions League. For this, FIFA honors him as World Coach of the Year. Even ahead of European champion coach Roberto Mancini and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.
Thomas Tuchel has been named FIFA World Coach after winning the Champions League with Chelsea. The 48-year-old prevailed in the election of the world association against the Italian European champion coach Roberto Mancini and Pep Guardiola from Manchester City. As world coach, Tuchel succeeds Jürgen Klopp, who received the award for his successes with Liverpool in 2020 and 2019.
“It’s been a very normal day so far, I’ve just come from training, but now you said my name,” said Tuchel, who was connected via video, to Arsène Wenger at the digital gala, who honored him. “It’s quite surreal, I’m overwhelmed and a little uncomfortable.”
Former Bundesliga coach Tuchel took over Chelsea a good year ago and won the premier class with the London club. Millions of fans worldwide, the coaches and captains of the national teams of the FIFA member associations and selected journalists were entitled to vote. At the end of 2020, the former Mainz and Dortmund player was released at Paris St. Germain.
Since 2010, FIFA has also chosen the world coach of the year in addition to the world footballer. Jupp Heynckes (FC Bayern Munich/2013) and world champion coach Joachim Löw (2014) were able to prevail ahead of Tuchel and Klopp. Claudio Ranieri (Leicester City/2016), Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid/2017), Didier Deschamps (French national team/2018) and Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool FC/2019 and 2020) have prevailed in recent years. The Englishwoman Emma Hayes was honored as the best coach of a women’s team by Champions League finalists FC Chelsea.
