Fifth in Schladming – Manuel Feller complains: “It hurts because…!”

He had won three of the five slaloms of the season so far, most recently in Kitzbühel and today at the night race in Schladming he was denied a place on the podium – no wonder that Austria’s technical figurehead Manuel Feller struggled with fifth place in Styria!

“In the end I have to be satisfied that I saw the goal with the mistake. On the other hand, it hurts because third place would have been within reach,” said Feller. The discipline leader was 0.12 seconds short of the podium in front of a sold-out crowd (22,500 spectators). The Tyrolean was only in 8th place after the first run. “Who would have thought that …” Feller saw the “sum of two days” at the end of the Schladming double. Who would have thought that I would finish second in the giant slalom and never finish worse than fifth in the slaloms?” asked the red jersey wearer. After six of twelve races, he leads the slalom rankings by 132 points ahead of Strasser.
