Final Fantasy X: For its 20th anniversary, the game has passed a symbolic milestone

While we all think what it’s gonna be like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or what will give Final Fantasy XVI, Square-Enix took a quick trip down memory lane to take stock of the sales of Final Fantasy X. The publisher then communicated to Gematsu the latest figures achieved by the saga, counting Final Fantasy Xits sequel and its remaster Final Fantasy X | X-2 HDand we can say that Tidus and Yuna were widely acclaimed.

A significant figure

Gematsu informs us that the remaster should approach 7 million salesbut in the meantime, all the global license of Final Fantasy X now has 20.8 million sales around the world since its launch, taking into account all editions. The latest figures come to us from September 2021, so the license will have taken 20 years to get there.

That’s a lot, especially when you know that despite the brand’s popularity Final Fantasyfew episodes can claim to have sold more than 10 million copies.

What about Final Fantasy X-3?

Beautiful figures that could give ideas to Square Enix? Not so surebecause even if the track of Final Fantasy X-3 had been explored for a while, nothing had been confirmed. A script had apparently been put together for a sequel, and Motomu Toriyama wasn’t entirely ruling out the possibility of it ever happening, but that shouldn’t be counted on too much.

Square Enix has only announced thata kabuki-style play would be organized in Japan during the spring of 2023 around Final Fantasy X. A way like any other to pay tribute to this cult episode, while perhaps waiting for other projects in the future.
