Final Fantasy XIV soon to be free-to-play? Square Enix responds

After a first failed launch in 2010, Final Fantasy XIV got a new version reborn three years later, and it’s been a MMORPGs essential for fans of the genre. The title was so successful that it is one of the few, with World of Warcraft, to require a monthly subscriptionthe competition opting for free-to-play where the premium.

Of course, there is the trial version, which allows you to discover Final Fantasy XIV up to a certain level and go through a few areas, but several players wonder if the title of Square Enix will one day become free-to-play. Eurogamer asked Naoki Yoshida, director and producer of MMORPGsand his answer leaves no room for doubt:

I think the free trial will continue to be extended, but we have no plans to make the client itself free at this time. Since a huge amount of time and money has been invested in expansion content, revenue from the sale of the expansion content itself is still very important in order to continue making expansions at this ladder. We want to constantly strive for the best on the business side and continue to create lots of content for you to enjoy.

So, Final Fantasy XIV so a perfectly well-established economic model, subscriptions and extensions are used to finance new extensions, and so on. This will come as no surprise to gamers. MMORPGsrenowned for its excellent quality extensions, and even the less fortunate can have fun with the trial version.
