New Warcraft game: Blizzard announces mobile offshoot
Activision Blizzard’s quarterly report not only shows the billions that the company generates, but there are also occasional references to future projects. According to the report, Blizzard is planning new content for games in the Warcraft universe, i.e. World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, for 2022. Come in addition a new mobile game, which is named separately from the other Warcraft games. The mobile offshoot for Warcraft is Blizzard’s first new attempt at the smartphone platform after the PR disaster when Diablo Immortal was announced.

In 2018 at Blizzcon, Diablo fans waited for new announcements about their favorite game. They also got that in the form of Diablo Immortal. What then followed were three developers, some of whom were booed on stage, and thanks to the “Red Shirt Guy” a meme for eternity. That’s probably not what “Immortal” meant. The question of whether this was an April Fool’s joke way too late became just as famous as a developer’s question: “Do you guys not have phones?”
Of course, Diablo fans also have smartphones, they just wanted something different. After that failed announcement, the same idea for the Warcraft franchise has also become more of a footnote.
But there is still reason for hope. The first impressions from the test phases of Diablo Immortal are much more positive than expected. Maybe a successful mobile game will actually be created there and Warcraft could do something similar. Apart from the mention in the quarterly report, there is currently no information about the new project.
