The unloved PlayStation Vita may be getting a second wind thanks to Vita3K, the very first Android emulator reserved for the portable console.
This open-source emulator is also compatible with Windows, Linux and macOS, and of course, as pointed out on its official website, is not intended to encourage illegal use.
The revitalized PS Vita
Last portable console from Sony which put an end to the pretensions of the Japanese manufacturer on the market with a taste of failure, the PS Vita comes back to life thanks to its very first emulator on Android, among others.
Rich in exclusive games which unfortunately did not shine from a commercial point of view, it can therefore thank Vita3K for trying to restore its image. The emulator available in the form of APK can thus be downloaded from its site, cited in source below.
Vita3K in its Android version has another advantage: relatively low-power requirements. In any case, the developers tested the software on a device equipped with a Unisoc Tiger T618 chip, 3 GB of RAM and a Mali-G52 MP2 GPU. Despite a technical data sheet very below more modern devices, most games seem to run rather smoothly on it.
An easy to install emulator
Another point in favor of Vita3K: a relatively easy installation to set up. The application indeed provides the necessary links to download the firmware of the PS Vita and other files essential to its proper functioning.
On the other hand, the task is slightly more delicate with regard to certain games. The emulator currently does not support ROMs in VPK format, in favor of ZIP or PKG files. However, there is no shortage of compatible games, with a particularly exhaustive list presented on its official website.
Note, however, that Vita3K is still a young shoot, and many games will have glitches and other bugs, which makes the experience less than ideal. No doubt all of this will be corrected over time, with the developer team seeming committed to keeping this emulator alive over time.
Of course, it is necessary to take advantage of it to have a purchased version of the games used, at the risk of carrying out an act of piracy punishable by law accordingly.
