Aldi sells a metal detector. You can go on a big treasure hunt just in time for the summer holidays and the holiday season. But is the offer really worth it?

At Aldi there are currently some products suitable for holidays and vacations. In addition to various camping items, the online shop currently has a metal detector for only 90 euros. A tempting offer for hobby treasure hunts on the beach, bathing lake or in the field.

But such a device is not only suitable for searching for coins. Someone who loses jewelry is sometimes happy to have a metal detector. The Aldi model is a cheap entry-level device that children will certainly enjoy.

Aldi is currently selling the National Geographic metal detector for just EUR 89.99, which is EUR 20 below the manufacturer’s recommended retail price.

According to the manufacturer, coin-sized objects can be detected at a depth of up to 20 centimeters, and the detector also finds larger objects at greater depths. There are three different sound signals that help you distinguish the metal you have found, and an LC display shows the most important information.

The length of the handle is adjustable between 100 and 125 centimetres, the armrest and handle are padded. Operation is via two 9 volt batteries. All in all, you get a solid entry-level device that beginners in particular can enjoy. The inexpensive detector is particularly recommended as an entertainment gadget for holidays or vacations.

Important instructions

Note that you are not allowed to go treasure hunting everywhere in Germany and other countries without a permit. Sometimes you need an excavation permit or the permission of the owner. In any case, you should inquire in advance where you are allowed to “sondle”.

In addition, caution is always required when “treasure hunting”. In Germany, it is not uncommon for ammunition left over from the war to be found in the ground, which can become a major hazard. Also note that archaeological finds are notifiable.
