finally some new blood with a very big series

Marvel is reportedly still working on a project regarding this popular superhero. Good news for the MCU which tends to stagnate a little.

Marvel Studios continues to expand its cinematic universe with the announcement of new developments regarding several of its projects. Among them, the highly anticipated project around Nova, which is confirmed to be in the initial phase of development. Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Animation and Television at Marvel, shared updates on this project as well as the Ironheart and Wonder Man series. What do we know?

Nova in project at Marvel

The series about Nova, the cosmic hero, is confirmed to be in early development at Marvel Studios. Although there hasn’t been an official update on this project since 2022, Winderbaum has expressed enthusiasm for the character. This is what he explains in the Phase Zero podcast. He mentions a particular love for Rich Rider, although the studio could also go for the Sam Alexander character.

  • Richard Rider, the first Nova, was introduced in Nova 1 in 1976. He is an Earth high school student who becomes a member of the Nova Corps. An intergalactic police force, after the last surviving member, Rhomann Dey, transfers his powers to it as he dies. As Nova, Richard Rider possesses super strength, can fly at incredible speeds, and has the ability to absorb and project energy. He is often associated with the Guardians of the Galaxy and other cosmic heroes of the Marvel Universe.
  • Sam Alexander, the more recent Nova, was introduced in Marvel Point One 1 in 2011. Sam is a teenager who discovers the Nova Corps helmet after his father, who was a member of the Nova Corps, goes missing. Like Richard Rider, Sam possesses similar powers through the Nova Corps helmet, including flight, superhuman strength, and the ability to withstand space.

A great project?

The Nova Corps, introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, had already sowed the seeds for Nova’s arrival in the MCU. And although James Gunn didn’t include Nova in the Guardians films, the Nova project could well have its origins in the events leading up to Avengers: Infinity War. But be careful, Winderbaum explains that Marvel is developing a lot of projects and that not all of them are necessarily intended to be brought to the screen. So there is always a possibility that all of this will never see the light of day.

Finally, despite rumors last year suggesting possible cancellations, Winderbaum confirmed that the Ironheart and Wonder Man series are still in development. Both series are currently in the editing phase and promise to explore new facets of the Marvel universe. Ironheart, centered on the character of Riri Williams, and Wonder Man, starring Simon Williams, are two of the projects that Marvel Studios is preparing to continue to enrich its universe.
