The Assembly elects this Thursday the presidency of the finance committee. After the appointment of two RN deputies as vice-presidents of the office of the Assembly on Wednesday, can such a scenario happen again for the presidency of the finance committee? Three candidates compete.

TO ANALYSE

The National Assembly continues to put itself in working order with the election to the presidency of the coveted finance committee. The left fears a new blow from Trafalgar: the Nupes is not angry after the appointment of two deputies from the National Rally as vice-presidents of the office of the Assembly on Wednesday. A first in history. She sees it as the result of an agreement between the majority, the elected LRs and the National Rally. Can such a maneuver be repeated for the presidency of the finance committee?

Three candidates compete this Thursday for the finance commission: Éric Coquerel for La France insoumise, Véronique Louwagie for LR and Jean-Philippe Tanguy for the National Rally. The favorite is Éric Coquerel, but voting by secret ballot may hold some surprises. To fully understand, you have to have these numbers in mind. The commission, which elects its own president, is notably composed of 18 members of the Nupes, eleven of the National Rally and eight of the Republicans. Therefore, if each deputy votes for his candidate, Éric Coquerel should be elected.

LR assumes to vote only for their candidate

A hypothesis that the majority fears, because the rebellious deputy would have access to almost all tax files, for individuals and companies. For their part, the Republicans will vote for their own candidate and assume that they do not want to give any voice to the RN and the Nupes. To the great dismay of the party of Marine Le Pen, which hoped for a gesture from the right in its favor, in the name of the tradition which wants the presidency of this commission to return to the main opposition party.

Thus, the only option to block Éric Coquerel would be for part of the majority to mobilize in favor of the National Rally. It would then be a double revolution. Firstly because, traditionally, the majority abstains. Then, because it would offer the RN a key position, which would not fail to provoke the anger of the Nupes.
