Find out how to easily activate audio description on Disney+!


Audio description is essential for blind or visually impaired people. The tool is available on Disney+, here’s how to activate it easily.

On AlloCiné, we are keen to shine the spotlight on the different features available on the platforms. Today, focus on audio description. This essential tool for blind or visually impaired people. This feature allows them to have the best possible experience when following the films, series, shows or documentaries put online by Disney+.

This involves integrating audio context, describing what is happening on the screen. Audio description is not automatically available on all content on the platform. Its availability varies depending on the content, language, and country in which the program is distributed.

Take for example the French series, Irrésistible with Camélia Jordana, launched last September. Start by starting playback of the program. Press pause and click the small icon at the top right of the screen, as you can see in the screenshot below. These are the settings.

Then simply select the “French” option. [Audiodescription]” in the Audio menu on the left column. Once audio description is activated, you will hear a voice simply describing the action taking place on the screen by quoting the characters and between dialogues.

Unfortunately, this functionality is not available on all programs on the platform. It exists most often in English, but not systematically in French. It is still available on Disney films like Encanto, Marvel films like Captain Marvel, but it is missing on the series side. To find your way around more easily, rely on the small “AD” icon for audio description which appears on the content sheets as indicated below:

If you are having problems enabling audio description on DisneyPlus.com, it is recommended by the platform’s help center to first ensure that you are using the latest available version of browsers compatible with Disney+, i.e. Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
