After only 1,500 kilometers in his used Tesla Model S, the new owner of the Stromer should shell out a whopping 20,000 euros for the repair. This made the Finn so angry that he unceremoniously blew up his Tesla.
Tesla is undoubtedly one of the leading brands when it comes to electric vehicles. Even as used cars, the once expensive Stromer are and will remain expensive. So also the chic Model S from 2013 that the Finn Tuomas Katainen had bought and was only about 1,500 kilometers away. “When I bought this Tesla, the first 1,500 kilometers were beautiful. It was an excellent car,” says Katainen. But then mistakes and breakdowns increased so that it was ultimately impossible to continue the journey and a tow truck had to pick up the Tesla.
After almost a month of downtime in the workshop, Katainen finally got a call telling him that repairs were impossible and that the only option was to replace the entire battery unit. “That would cost me at least 20,000 euros,” said the angry Tesla owner. “So I told them that I was coming to pick up my car to blow it up.” How the Tesla is prepared for the demolition and the following explosion can be seen in the video:
Finn blows up his defective Tesla and films the spectacle
The scene of the bizarre spectacle is the village of Jaala in the southern Finnish region of Kymenlaakso with only a few thousand inhabitants. The clip from Pommijätkät, a YouTube channel that deals with explosions, begins with shots of the wonderful landscape with typical images of snow-covered expanses, winter sports and a man who comes out of a sauna and cools off in the snow – pure Finnish cliché. Then Katainen has her own say. After telling the story of Tesla, he says, “Every now and then things just go wrong. Then it’s time for Finnish intransigence to take the lead.”
The demolition itself is not as easy as it sounds. Numerous calculations must be made for the correct explosive force and there are many safety measures to be observed. In the end, the Tesla is prepared with a number of sticks of explosives. About 30 kilos are needed to achieve the desired effect. After all, the owner can trigger the devastating end of his white Tesla himself at the push of a button. After the demolition, nothing of the former luxury electric vehicle can be seen. Admittedly: A very radical measure to save workshop costs!
