Fire brigades on duty – innkeeper raised the alarm: fire in the indoor swimming pool

A fire broke out in a public indoor swimming pool in Murau on Tuesday afternoon for reasons that are still unclear. Nobody got hurt.

At around 3:30 p.m., the innkeeper of the local restaurant in the indoor swimming pool became aware of the fire after he noticed the smell of burning in the open restaurant. During an inspection, the man finally noticed smoke coming from the cellar below the restaurant. The building technician, who had been alerted, could no longer safely enter the heavily smoke-filled basement, whereupon he alerted the fire department. Almost 30 emergency services from the Murau and St. Georgen ob Murau fire departments were able to quickly extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. The indoor swimming pool was closed at the time (Shrove Tuesday), which is why no bathers were present. The total of 13 people in the restaurant were able to get to safety in time. Apparently the fire started in the sauna area. However, the detailed circumstances and causes of the fire are still unclear and are the subject of investigations by a “district fire investigator”. The amount of material damage caused has not yet been determined. Nobody got hurt.
