After the room fire in an apartment building in Vienna-Donaustadt, a 53-year-old woman is now suspected of setting the fire. She is the partner of the seriously injured man (57). Six other residents also had to be taken to hospital after the fire.
There were three children among those hospitalized. The fire happened on Saturday evening. The woman is said to have set the blanket on fire. Initially, the cause of the fire at 9 p.m. in the ground floor apartment could not be explained. On Sunday afternoon, however, it turned out that the fire had apparently been set, as the state police headquarters announced. The suspect is the seriously injured man’s partner, a 53-year-old woman. She is said to have set a blanket on fire and left the apartment after failing to put out the fire. The arsonist is likely to be mentally ill. Police spokesman Markus Dittrich announced that there were indications of a possible mental illness in the woman. She may also have been drunk at the time of the crime. In a short initial interview, the 53-year-old admitted that she had set the blanket on fire. She couldn’t name a motive. “She said she didn’t know why she did it,” Dittrich said. After consultation with the journalist from the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, the 53-year-old was transferred to a psychiatric ward and reported for negligently causing a fire. Man in artificial deep sleep Her partner, who was taken by the Vienna professional fire department “at the last moment” – according to fire department spokesman Christian Feiler – who was rescued from the ground floor apartment – is now in a hospital in artificial deep sleep. He had suffered burns and a smoke gas injury. The professional fire department had to put out the fire on Saturday with a total of eight vehicles and 39 emergency services.
