38 years later Charlie with the young Drew Barrymore, Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman produce a new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel. In Firestarter, Zac Efron plays the father of a little girl endowed with an extraordinary power of pyrokinesis.

For eleven years, Andy (Efron) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon) have been trying to escape from a shadowy federal agency seeking to capture their daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong). The agency would like to use the girl’s power to create a weapon of mass destruction…

But Charlie finds it increasingly difficult to control his emotions and his powers. When the agency finds out where she and her parents are staying, a mysterious agent (Michael Greyeyes) is sent on a mission to hunt down the family and get hold of Charlie.

Directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil), the feature film is Zac Efron’s first foray into genre cinema. The comedian, more accustomed to comedies, nevertheless recently played serial killer Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

Firestarter will hit theaters on June 1.
