First leg win with a downer
Bayern women with one foot in the CL final
With a win, but also a goal, the women of FC Bayern Munich go into the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals. At home they beat Chelsea 2-1. The decision will be made in London in a week.
The footballers of FC Bayern have a good chance of their first final in the Champions League. The Munich women won the semi-final first leg against Chelsea FC 2-1 (1-1) and are confident about the second leg in London next Sunday.
Sydney Lohmann (12th minute) and Hanna Glas (56th) scored Bayern’s goals. Melanie Leupolz managed to equalize for Chelsea, which could still hurt the Munich women (22nd).
Both teams underlined their offensive qualities. Bayern took the lead early on thanks to Lohmann after preliminary work by Glas. Ironically, the former Munich Leupholz managed to equalize when she was headed and the ball went into the goal. In the exciting second half, the hosts steered the game in a successful direction early on. This time Glas was the goal scorer.
Unlike two years ago against FC Barcelona, the semi-finals for the Bayern women should not be the end of the line this time. The final on May 16 in Gothenburg is the big goal of the Bundesliga leaders. Paris Saint-Germain or FC Barcelona would be opponents there. These two teams separated 1-1 in the first leg in France.
