First “The Bear”, now “The Boss”: Jeremy Allen White is set to take on the lead role in a Bruce Springsteen film

The age of biopics is not over, the filmed biographies of musicians are simply no longer as safe a bet as they once were. While “Walk the Line”, “Ray” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” gave film studios hope that films of this kind would automatically rain money and Oscars, “One Love” and “Respect” proved that audiences are bored with the same old routine of a biopic.

“Rocketman” and “Elvis” chose a different approach and were quite successful. A currently planned film about Bruce Springsteen does not simply follow Springsteen’s life from his childhood to the present day, but rather focuses on a specific point in Springsteen’s career.

“Deliver Me From Nowhere”, based on the book of the same name by Warren Zanes, is about the creation of Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska”. The album, which was released between “The River” and “Born in the USA”, was not particularly successful when it was released in 1982, but is now considered one of Springsteen’s best albums and is also Springsteen’s personal favorite.

“Nebraska” consists of songs that Springsteen recorded alone in his home with a multi-track recorder. They were actually only intended as demo versions, but in the studio with the E Street Band it became apparent that many of the songs worked best in their simple acoustic versions.

Scott Stuber, who previously headed Netflix’s film department, is currently working on a “Deliver Me From Nowhere” film adaptation and one actor is already considered a clear favorite for the role of Bruce Springsteen. Jeremy Allen White, known for series such as “The Bear” and “Shameless”, has not yet demonstrated his singing talent, so Springsteen’s original recordings may simply be used here.

Scott Cooper, known for films such as “Crazy Heart”, “Hostiles”, “Black Mass” and “The Case of Mr Poe”, is responsible for the screenplay and direction. Springsteen himself is behind the project, and a theatrical release is not expected until 2025 at the earliest.
