Fitbit Ionic: Smartwatch recalled due to risk of burns

The market launch of the Fitbit Ionic was some time ago. The smart fitness watch went on sale in 2017 and has not been available in stores since 2020. Despite this, problems with the wearable are now appearing. As reported by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the manufacturer has received 174 reports that the watch’s battery is overheating. 118 wearers of the smartwatch complained of burn injuries on their wrists, two of them even third-degree burns.

Fitbit offers refunds

That’s why Fitbit is recalling the smartwatch on a voluntary basis. In a statement obtained by the editors, “Fitbit has received a very limited number of reports of injuries where the battery in Fitbit Ionic smartwatches is overheating and posing a risk of burns.” The safety of customers is Fitbit’s top priority, and the company is taking the measures out of sheer caution.

Fitbit advises local owners of an Ionic to stop using it. The company is also offering a refund to users with an affected device. The manufacturer provides further information on a specially set up website. Alternatively, you can reach customer service on the toll-free number 0800/0008876.
