Five kilometers – 45 firefighters paved a long, wide diesel track

A diesel track on the B86 Villacher Straße represents an emergency for the fire department: 45 emergency services were deployed to collect the fuel. In some cases the police had to close sections of the road.

On Wednesday around 3:30 p.m., an emergency call from the Villach fire department reported a trace of diesel in the area of the B86 Villacher Straße. “The trail was 30 to 40 centimeters wide and stretched for a good five kilometers through several parts of the city,” said OBI Martin Regenfelder, the deputy commander of the Villach main fire station. Therefore, help was requested, the fire departments from Pogöriach, Möltschach, Judendorf and other emergency services from the main fire station responded. “Due to the long route and the massive pollution, the operation was divided into operational sections and these were processed by the individual fire departments,” said the emergency services. While the firefighters worked with oil binding agents, the police had to regulate the temporarily heavy traffic and partially close sections of the road. A defective truck that was on a test drive was identified as the cause of the diesel trail. “The final cleaning was carried out by sweepers from a private company on behalf of the “The city’s commercial center and the state highway administration,” said Martin Regenfelder. After around two hours, the 45 fire departments were able to move in again.
