Fleeing on foot – 40 migrants picked up in the Oberpullendorf district

The influx of refugees in Burgenland does not end. Since the beginning of the year, 15,700 illegal migrants have already been apprehended in the easternmost federal state. This was also the case on Saturday morning in Horitschon and Neckenmarkt: There the police discovered a total of 40 Afghans who were apparently on foot on the run.

The local officials and the armed forces are in constant action: in the past week alone, around 780 refugees found their way to Burgenland, and the trend is rising. Now the police attacked illegal cross-border commuters again. This time the setting: two communities near the border crossing. Large-scale apprehension in the middle of the village Police officers from Horitschon were on patrol around 5.30 a.m. when they discovered a total of 40 refugees – 30 in Horitschon and 10 in Neckenmarkt – in the middle of the village. The investigation revealed that all of the men were from Afghanistan. In view of the soiled clothing and dirty shoes, they must have made their way to Central Burgenland on foot, but as reported, almost every second refugee in this country comes to Austria via Burgenland. The initial reception centers in the eastern federal state are accordingly overcrowded. For this reason, the migrants were brought to quarters in Carinthia by bus on Saturday by the armed forces.
