Klopp is not available as national coach

According to his advisor, Jürgen Klopp is not currently considering a possible engagement as national coach. The Liverpool FC coach is considered by many fans to be the ideal candidate, should the DFB separate from crisis head coach Hansi Flick.

Even if Hansi Flick is fired, Jürgen Klopp will not be available as national coach. His advisor Marc Kosicke vehemently made that clear. “Jürgen has a long-term contract with the LFC and the DFB has a national coach, so it’s not an issue for us,” Kosicke told the “Bild” newspaper. Klopp is considered by many fans to be the preferred candidate, should the DFB separate from head coach Hansi Flick.

Despite the recent disappointing results, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and sports director Rudi Völler had expressed their confidence in the 57-year-old Flick. Flick himself had assured after the 0: 2 against Colombia on Tuesday evening that he wanted to lead the national team to the home European Championship in 2024 and announced an upswing in the next international matches in September.

In the past, Klopp had confirmed a fundamental interest in the national coach’s job. “I’ve said it before: It’s not entirely out of the question that I’ll be the national coach at some point. But it has to fit. And it hasn’t so far,” the 56-year-old told “Sport Bild” in January. In this context, Klopp had also announced that he wanted to take a break after the time with the Reds. “If I end the contract in Liverpool, then nothing will definitely be done for a year.”

Klopp was only fifth in the Premier League with Liverpool after a difficult season and is currently rebuilding the team of the traditional English club. Among others, Argentina’s world champion Alexis Mac Allister is coming. Klopp extended his contract with the Reds this spring.
