Flight, Drift, Crash – “Gymkhana”: Incredible stunts after near paralysis

A car flies over a helicopter at over 250 km/h, slides over rails like a skateboarder and basically drifts knots into the clouds of smoke produced by the spinning tires. You’d expect Ken Block to be behind the wheel, but his buddy Travis Pastrana soon forgets him – with an incredible drive through Florida.

Gymkhana drift videos have traditionally been inseparable from Ken Block and noisy combustion engines, but more recently Block has preferred to drift an electric-powered Audi (with Rimac tech). Pastrana, actually known as a motocross and freestyle motocross pilot on two wheels, is now responsible for the fuel. For “Gymkhana 2022: Travis Pastrana Goes Berserk in Florida in a 862 HP Subaru Wagon” there are four wheels – and at the beginning none: The The base jump he starts the video with goes wrong, the extreme athlete hits the ground and has to be carried away carefully. Serious injuries, especially hip and vertebral fractures, were the result. The video continues seamlessly, the viewer stops breathing at the spectacular stunts as well as the crew at the crash, only this time there is no danger and certainly no paraplegia. The car we see is a 1983 Subaru GL station wagon. In fact, of course, it’s just the shape of the body, because instead of sheet metal it’s all carbon, the frame is made of steel tubes. The wheelbase is the same as the original, but the “Family Huckster”, as they call the car, is around 30 centimeters wider. A spoiler extends from the roof, and additional flaps from the fenders if required. The engine was taken from the predecessor drift Subaru, the Subaru WRX STI Airslayer. The 2.3-liter boxer delivers 874 hp (=862 HP) and drives all wheels via a sequential six-speed gearbox. The translation is designed for a top speed of over 280 km/h. And now have fun with the video – don’t forget to breathe!
