Flights canceled – Eurowings passengers are now vacationing at home

The Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings canceled flights to and from Salzburg at the weekend. Hundreds of vacationers were then stranded at the airport.

The weekend definitely went differently than planned for one or the other holidaymaker: Eurowings canceled flights to and from Salzburg at short notice. Around 500 passengers were stranded at Salzburg Airport on Sunday. In some cases, they only received notification of the cancellation on the way to their flight. There were also failures on Saturday. The Lufthansa subsidiary did not initiate quick solutions. There was great regret for this: “At the weekend there were short-term sick reports from our crews, including corona diseases, which were higher than planned in our plans.” And that with currently generally thin personnel reserves. Small consolation for the vacationers who stayed in Salzburg. “All guests who had booked through TUI drove home from the airport without having achieved anything,” says Patrizia Weinberger from TUI. A crisis meeting called at short notice on Sunday with the Lufthansa subsidiary was unsuccessful. “Eurowings will not be able to offer our guests any replacement flights until further notice. We as TUI are now becoming active ourselves and are making our own replacement planes available this week,” says Weinberger. One hopes that the flight cancellations at the weekend were a one-off thing. The airline itself does not dare to give concrete future prospects.
