Floa Bank, formerly Banque Casino, alerts its customers about a phishing campaign aimed at recovering their banking information.

The online banking market is growing, and Floa Bank, financial partner of Casino hypermarkets and the Cdiscount e-commerce site, can boast 4 million customers in Europe, including France.

This success makes it the target of choice for cyberhackers. The online bank recently started sending emails to its customers to inform them of a new phishing campaign. A fraudulent email is currently circulating on the Internet, claiming that the recipient’s Floa bank card is deactivated or inactive. The customer is invited to provide their bank details and falls into the trap. Floa Bank issues warnings to protect the personal and banking data of its customers, and indicates the procedure to follow in the event of fraud.

How to avoid the phishing trap

Phishing is one of the most common cyberhacking methods, according to the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty.

In the case of the Floa scam, hackers send an email that appears to come from the bank. This informs the recipient that their Floa bank card is deactivated or inactive. It may also contain a link to a website that resembles that of Floa Bank. If the recipient clicks on the link, they will be directed to a fraudulent site where they will be asked to enter their credit card information to “reactivate” their card.

Like most banking establishments, Floa Bank never asks its customers to provide their credit card information by email. In this case, the bank already has the details of its customers’ classic Casino or Cdiscount cards, so it would not need to ask you again in any case. Finally, no Floa Bank advisor will call you to reconfirm your telephone number or ask you to call 3179 (a number hijacked and used to retrieve your number and your personal and banking data).

Recommendations for phishing victims

Floa Bank reacted and published information and recommendations on this phishing campaign at the beginning of April 2024.

If you have unfortunately fallen into the trap and have completed the process by indicating your RIO code, Floa Bank invites you to contact your mobile operator as quickly as possible. The latter will do what is necessary to block all fraudulent actions. If you have given your bank card number, you can cancel your card from the Floa customer area.

If you have indeed received this suspicious e-mail, or spam or any other illicit content, Floa invites you to forward it to the following address: [email protected]. Once done, immediately delete the malicious email from your inbox. It is also recommended to report the scam to the relevant authority in your country.

In France, you can report phishing attempts to the PHAROS platform of the Ministry of the Interior. As a reminder, in 2022, the French were the preferred target of pirates in Europe.

Ex-corporate journalist, the world of the web, networks, connected machines and everything that is written on the Internet whets my appetite. From the latest TikTok trend to the most liked reels, I come from the Facebook generation that still fascinates the internal war between Mac and PC. As a wise woman, the Internet, its tools, practices and regulation are among my favorite hobbies (that, lineart, knitting and bad jokes). My motto: to try it is to adopt it, but in complete safety.
