Since the invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has exchanged his suit for an olive green hoodie and his accommodation has also changed significantly. He gives a Ukrainian camera team an insight into his makeshift empire.

Floral bedspreads, a walk-in closet and plenty of clothes in olive green: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has shown television journalists the temporary accommodation in which he says he has lived since the beginning of the war.

“This is where I basically live,” says Zelenskyy in the film by journalist Dmytro Komarov, which was broadcast on Ukrainian television’s 1+1 channel on Friday. He was also there when the Russian attack on Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.

Zelenskyy’s domestic policy advisor Anton Herashchenko also posted a clip of the film on Twitter. The windows of the makeshift shelter are covered with thick curtains. The single bed has pillows and a floral bedspread, and you can also see a TV, a chair and a desk.

Selenskyj also shows the camera team his walk-in closet. Many jackets in olive green and camouflage are hanging on the pole, military boots are on the floor. These are his “normal clothes,” says the president. “I’m not wearing suits right now.”

But then he pulls out a suit from the left-hand corner of the closet – freshly dry-cleaned in foil. “This is a symbol that the war will soon end and victory will come,” Zelenskyi says with a smile in the film.
