On July 3, 2023, Florence Taillade goes to a dental office located in Gujan-Mestras on the Arcachon basin (Gironde) for a surgical intervention. This 68-year-old new retiree must undergo the removal of several teeth. The placement of implants is also planned. Along with another health professional, the dentist takes care of her. To be able to carry out this procedure, an injection of local anesthetic is necessary. But less than five minutes after receiving this product, Florence Taillade suffers a cardio-respiratory arrestreport our colleagues from RTL, in a article published on Thursday February 22, 2024. His son, Guillaume, is then informed that an incident has occurred and that his mother is in bad shape. “I saw mom in the van. She was in very bad shape, no longer conscious at all”, he tells our colleagues. Emergency services quickly took care of this 68-year-old woman who was transported to Bordeaux University Hospital.
“Not a word of apology”
Unfortunately, her condition will deteriorate and she will find herself brain dead. 24 hours after arriving at the hospital, Florence Taillade dies after being “unplugged”, in agreement with her family. And according to hospital doctors, the hypothesis of an overdose of anesthetic is raised to explain the state of health in which this woman found herself. Months later, the victim’s children decided to file a complaint for manslaughter against the two dentists who treated their mother. And Guillaume, Florence’s son, criticizes the behavior of these health professionals: “We had no contact with them, neither the next day nor the following days. No empathy”. Especially since the “medical file, very thin, transmitted by practitioners, does not detail the doses of anesthetic that were administered to the patient”, according to Maître Philippe Courtois, the family’s lawyer. “There is nothing at all about the incident,” explains the family’s lawyer, “only a dental panoramic. Not a word of apology, not an explanation.” They therefore hope to have answers to be able to shed light on what happened to their mother.
