Florian David Fitz has lost his father Karlhans. “The grief comes in waves,” the actor reveals in an interview and speaks in detail for the first time about the sudden loss.

Florian David Fitz, 49, has lost one of his closest confidants forever. In an interview with “Zeit”, the actor speaks in detail for the first time about the sudden death of his father Karlhans Fitz – and how he said goodbye to him with an emotionally challenging funeral speech.

Florian David Fitz loses his father Karlhans: “The grief comes in waves”

“The grief comes in waves,” Fitz said. “Every time you think you’ve got it figured out, another wave comes. But the waves get smaller over time.” The “Vincent Wants Meer” actor does not reveal exactly when his father died. In an interview with “Zeit”, Florian David Fitz remembers the day when it happened. According to his views, his father Karlhans had a “dream death” – because he “didn’t notice anything about it”.

It happened on a vacation day. Fitz remembers: “[Mein Vater] was always very sporty and on vacation with my mother, after a very nice day at the sea, he got off his bike and was gone.” His mother Gabriele called him “from the hospital.” When she “said these final words,” he ” “I only had one thought”: “There must be something we can do about it! Completely absurd.” He doesn’t reveal the cause of death, only this much: “The brain is too slow. Or the heart.”

Fitz gave speech at funeral: ‘I barely got by’

It was important for Florian David Fitz to give the funeral speech. It is an important process to say goodbye. He explains to “Zeit”:

I spoke at the funeral because I couldn’t stand it if someone had just given them a few bullet points to speak.

The situation was understandably “not pleasant” for him. “I barely got by,” he remembers, but he wanted everyone to recognize his father in his words.

This thought “triggers panic” in the father of the twins

Fitz is now a father himself – of twins. The mother is unknown, and the acting star has never revealed the names of his children. Nevertheless, he provides an insight into his fears and behavior, which have changed with the role of father and his view of death and life.

“I don’t want to crash in a plane now,” emphasizes Florian David Fitz and explains: “Not that I wanted to before, but I was more fatalistic. Now the thought tends to trigger panic in me.” When hiking, he can no longer “shrug off certain risky maneuvers as easily as a youth.” Every parent would tell him that.

Florian David Fitz grew up in a family of hoteliers. His parents Karlhans (†) and Gabriele owned a hotel in Munich, which is now run by sister Stefanie and her husband Bernd Gronbach. Mother Gabriele is still active: in the front office.
