Her blonde hair never stopped looking banged up. Since his debut, Florian Zeller has been identifiable thanks to his hair. In 2002, at the age of 23, after having published his first novel, artificial snow, then obtained, two years later, the Interallié prize for Fascination of the worst, he and his capillary disorder had appeared in the French media-literary landscape. As if his stylistic signature should be combined with the particularism of his hairstyle. The rebellious side of an author appeared with the new century.

Today, the 43-year-old playwright’s blond helmet has a little less volume. On April 25, 2021, on the Oscars stage in Los Angeles, it was nevertheless still disheveled that the Frenchman received the Oscar for best adaptation for his first film, The Father, with Anthony Hopkins in the title role (who won the statuette for best actor), taken from his own play, The father.

This text, which speaks of Alzheimer’s disease through the prism of the old man who suffers from it, has made him one of the most performed contemporary authors in the world. Since its creation in Paris, in September 2012, The Father has made an impressive tour of the world, in about fifty countries, from Japan to Brazil, via Russia, China, South Africa and Israel. He is never completely sure of being right, he is open to questioning. Since its inception, it has hardly changed. »

Florian Zeller was a French writer. He is now an American author. He left Paris and Saint-Germain-des-Prés for Los Angeles and Mulholland Drive. He lives there with his partner, the ex-model and actress Marine Delterme, and their son. In California, the writer created a production company, Blue Morning Pictures. By residing in the hills of Hollywood, the director offered himself an imaginary world. Mulholland Drive, by David Lynch, is one of his favorite feature films, “a film that looks like a puzzle of which a piece will always be missing”, he argues. We see its influence in The Father, where is written each time the tragedy of an individual to whom there is always missing a piece on his intimate puzzle.
