What is the Switch OLED?
The Switch OLED is the latest model of Nintendo’s home console. The Kyoto firm offers a high-end model of its Switch. Apart from a different coating and better integrated buttons, the design is identical to the first version. The major evolution comes from the OLED screen, larger by 0.8″ and much brighter. OLED brings a sharper image with more intense blacks and better contrast. Colors stand out better and brightness is vibrant. Visual comfort is much more pleasant in portable mode.
The Switch OLED is not more powerful and does not change the graphics of the games at all. It provides more readability and better immersion than on the Classic Switch and by necessity, gives better rendering to games. If you often play outdoors, the brightness is slightly behind. But, in places with little sunlight or indoors, the OLED screen keeps its promises. The Switch OLED is intended for players who do not have the Nintendo console and who play as much in portable mode as on their television.
With The Zelda: Skyward Sword offered, is the Switch Oled a good deal?
This is a very good deal! The Switch OLED is an excellent console, both on the go and in docked mode, while The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is a divisive game, but it has its qualities. Released about ten years ago on Wii, Skyward Sword is intended as a prologue, in the complicated timeline of the Zelda saga. It’s clearly not the best episode of the saga, but it’s not the worst either. Should we play it when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild exist ? The answer is yes if you want to discover the foundations of the great game that will be Breath of the Wild and by extension, the next episode called Tears of the Kingdom.
Skyward Sword was an ambitious Zelda back then and it still feels today. The game mechanics are ingenious and well thought out. Their executions are impeccable, especially in the dungeons, which are clearly the great strength of this component. These are well designed and faithful to the saga, both in their level design than in their unfolding. The universe and the lore are brilliantly brought and told. Apart from the gameplay which has inevitably aged, and the story pretext for adventure, Skyward Sword is a Zelda who deserves his second chance.
