Foamstars, or the team shooter by Square Enix

Sometimes there are surprising announcements, which we cannot really explain. Titles that we did not see coming, and never understand. And then, at other times, the reason comes from itself. For example, a manager at Square Enix obviously loves Splatoon, and wants a similar experience to join their catalog. For no other valid explanation can explain Foamstarspresented on during the PlayStation Showcase, and planned for PS4 and PS5.

Two teams of 4, battling in a cartoonish AD with foam, terrain-altering, dynamic style. No, really, it’s Splatoon with foam. And it is clearly not the declaration of Kosuke Okatani, producer of the game, which will make us change our minds.

“As you saw in the preview trailer, Foamstars offers a new take on shooter gameplay based on the concept of ‘dynamic and exciting foam battles available to everyone’.

Moss isn’t just for attacking. You can also spread it on the ground to change the terrain. The game uses foam in creative and versatile ways. For example, players can form a foam fortress to target enemies from its top, foam surf to traverse the battlefield, and even use foam to parry enemy attacks. »

Afterwards, when you see the success of Splatoon, it’s hard to blame Square Enix for trying to reproduce it. We will still remain extremely cautious about the future of Foamstars, given the state of the publisher’s latest releases. Especially while waiting to learn more, like concrete gameplay, and since no release window has been announced.
