Giffey wants to use mobile vaccination teams

When vaccinating, socially disadvantaged people must be given more attention, warns Family Minister Giffey. Only education can help against reservations – “in the language, about the stations that are being heard”. Mobile vaccination teams are supposed to do that.

Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey has spoken out in favor of mobile vaccination teams in disadvantaged districts. “If it is also possible to work with mobile teams, I would absolutely support that. First of all, educational work is important,” said the SPD politician in the ARD “Morgenmagazin”. This is particularly relevant for districts in which the corona numbers are particularly high.

This is not primarily a question of migration background, but a social question. However, people with a migration background often lived in very cramped conditions and had problems understanding the Corona rules due to a lack of language skills, said Giffey. When it comes to vaccination, too, it is important to focus more on people in the socially disadvantaged areas.

Many people have reservations, great fears and insecurities. “And then maybe the decision will be made: I’ll get vaccinated now, but I don’t even know how to do it.” That’s why you have to advertise for trust and “go there, address in the language, through the channels that are heard and seen,” said Giffey. After all, with the teams you can reach everyone there.

Parents’ willingness to vaccinate is particularly important

The minister warned that the pandemic would have a particularly negative impact on children who were previously socially disadvantaged. “80 percent of the children are doing well, but 20 percent are in need of special support, there are a lot of children with a migration background. And this gap is of course widened by the pandemic,” said Giffey. The federal government will therefore focus on these children and young people in particular with catch-up programs.

Against the background of increasing numbers of corona cases in children, the Family Minister particularly appealed to parents to get vaccinated as soon as possible, as reported by the Essen Funke media group. After the vaccination summit, it is foreseeable that the question of vaccination prioritization will be dealt with shortly.

“From June onwards, it will very quickly be a matter of ensuring that as many adults as possible are actually ready to be vaccinated – including parents.” She therefore calls on everyone to decide in favor of a vaccination. This is also important for safe daycare operations, explained Giffey.
